Welcome to the Reformed Parish House, part of the Rosia Montana UNESCO tour, an architectural gem. Currently, it is undergoing restoration. Being a remarkable building, its state of degradation has been a concern to the community and the moment of its restoration has been a cause for joy...
The Reformed Parish House was built in the second half of the 19th century, as a parish office and residence, with commercial spaces on the ground floor facing the street. In the post-war period, it functioned as a pharmacy and a pharmacist's residence. After 1990, the commercial space was used as a general store and grocery store.
The construction represents the most complex and coherent example of classicism in architecture in Rosia Montana. The composition of the main facade facing the street is symmetrical, with the central body marked in projection from the facade plan, traversed at the ground floor level by an access corridor to the plot. Although the building does not fit into a closed front and access to the plot can also be made through the courtyard, next to the house, the plan is organized according to this important element, the corridor, which is therefore, in this case, not a functional necessity but an architectural, aesthetic choice.
Behind this classicist architecture, towards the courtyard, the house turns back through a fluent curve strongly related to the vernacular architecture, accessible through a staircase house that is incorporated into the volume of the house and covered with a vault. The wooden pillars of the curve are plastered to imitate columns with capitals.
